The concept of representing spaces through bands of pure colour fascinates me, and has resulted in a series of photographs that represent a personal response to particular cities.
The bands represent not only of the actual colour of the cities - the stones, the paint, the sky - but also conceptual ideas formed through occupying the space. While these images originate in landscape, and some of the original seeps into the finished image, these photographs are not Landscape but a personal reflection on the city.
The titles of the series 'Zipcodes' is an intentional recognition of the work of Barnett Newman, the exploration of a city's representation by an abstract system of number, whether through a Post Office's specification, or the mathematical expression of digital media through colour.
Prints of these works are for sale.
